1. This is the entrance to the Out Patient clinic.
2. Here I am out side the Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Kunming.
3. Outside the hospital with Dr. Xie my translator, and Dr. Wang the Dean of the Acupuncture Department.
4. Here is a view of the clinic where we treated up to 40 patients a day. There were a total of 7 beds and 5 chairs for treatments. The clinic was closed from 12 noon to 2pm, which during this time, we slept on these treatment tables.
5. This is a view of the buildings outside the clinic. These buildings are historical landmarks, and as such, cannot be torn down. Notice all the plants growing on the rooftops. They now house stores where one can purchase anything from clothes to trinkets.
6. Dr. Wang and myself outside the courtyard of the hospital taking in some sun.
7. Dr. Xie was invaluable to me during my stay. Not only did she provide excellent translation for me; she is also a superb TCM practitioner. Notice the treatment tables and charts in the background.
8. Dr. Wang observing my needle technique.
9. Once he was satisfied with my ability to treat his patients, he disappeared.
10. Dr. Xie was there to observe and guide me as well at times.
11. A 16 ear old receiving acupuncture.
12. Here is a 2 year old being treated for Bells Palsy.
13. Here is one of the oldest patients I had the pleasure of treating, also for Bells Palsy.
14. This patient came in to have her shoulder treated. We used a heat lamp and electric stimulation, with remarkable results.
15. Arthritis of the knee is treated by needling. Acupuncture for Arthritis produces good results.
16. Burning Moxa on the ends of the needles give a relaxing and beneficial warmth to the arthritic knee, which helps in the overall treatment of arthritis.
17. Moxa application for Bells Palsy. The heat of the moxa transfers through the ginger slices and warms the facial area causing a warming sensation, helping get rid of the wind-cold injury causing facial paralysis.
18. Dr. Wang doing a pulse diagnosis on me when I was feeling under the weather one day.
19. This is where the herbal decoctions are prepared for the in-patients and for me once Dr. Wang filled out my prescription.
20. This is the hospital pharmacy. Actually there are 3. On the left there is a Chinese patent medicine pharmacy and on the right is the raw herbs pharmacy. The western pharmaceuticals pharmacy is to the right out of the picture.
21. At the entrance of an herbal garden.
22. The garden is rich with medicinal plants of all kinds used in TCM.
23. Recognize any of these plants?
24. This is Victor. I met him at the Horticultural Exposition. He sells agricultural chemicals and was at the expo as a representative of his company. Behind us is a bush in the shape of a gourd. Gourds were used to carry herbal decoctions, and are a sign of herbal medicine.
25. A museum which houses herbal plants and medicines, for all to see.
26. Victor looking at plants used in traditional Chinese medicine from plant to raw herbs. Showing the transformation.
27. Here are patent formulas used in TCM. These are the processed herbs into pill form.
28. These are some of the more delicate herbs grown under strict surveillance and controlled conditions. You can see Ginseng and mushrooms growing in the pots.
29. Here I am with my Tai Qi teacher. I met him in the park one day and through a translator, he agreed to teach me Tai Qi. We met every morning at 7am for 1/2 an hour and then met with the rest of the group. He did not speak any English and I did not speak much Chinese.
30. Our group practicing Tai Qi together in the park. Early every morning the elderly go out to the parks and exercise. Maybe we should do the same.
31. The group shot of the young Tai Qi players.
32. One of my dreams was to visit the Great Wall . Need I say more.
